Terms of Service
Last updated: 12 May 2026 · Effective immediately
Summary: Standby Dental is a marketplace that introduces dental nurses to dental practices. We are not the employer of either party and are not a clinical services provider. Each shift is a direct contract between the practice and the nurse.
1. Definitions
- Platform — the Standby Dental app (Android & iOS) and website at standbydental.com.
- Practice — a UK dental practice that posts shifts on the Platform.
- Nurse — a UK GDC-registered dental nurse who applies for shifts.
- Shift — a discrete unit of work posted by a Practice and accepted by a Nurse.
- We / us — Standby Dental, the operator of the Platform.
2. Nature of the Service
The Platform is a marketplace and introduction service. Each Shift is a direct contract between the Practice and the Nurse. Standby Dental:
- is not the employer of any Nurse;
- is not a clinical services provider;
- does not supervise the performance of clinical duties.
3. Eligibility
You may only use the Platform if you are:
- 18 years of age or older;
- legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom; and
- in the case of Nurses, currently registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).
4. Verification (Nurses)
Nurses must provide and keep current:
- a valid GDC registration number;
- DBS check (Enhanced for clinical roles);
- professional indemnity insurance;
- Hepatitis B immunisation evidence;
- proof of identity and right to work.
We cross-check the GDC public register on registration and at scheduled intervals. Misrepresentation is grounds for immediate removal.
5. Booking and Cancellation
- A Shift is "confirmed" when a Nurse is matched to a posting.
- Practices may cancel a confirmed Shift up to 24 hours before start without charge. Within 24 hours, the Booking Fee remains payable.
- Nurses cancelling a confirmed Shift within 24 hours may incur a reliability penalty affecting match priority.
- No-shows by either party are reviewed and may result in suspension.
6. Fees and Payment
- Practices pay the Nurse rate plus a booking fee plus VAT (currently 20%).
- Practices are billed monthly with 30-day terms.
- Nurses are paid via Stripe Connect on a 14-day automatic schedule after the Shift completes.
- We may withhold payouts pending dispute resolution.
7. Tax Status (Nurses)
Nurses operate as independent contractors. You are responsible for your own income tax, National Insurance, and any VAT registration where applicable. We are not your employer; we will issue payment summaries but do not deduct PAYE.
8. Conduct
You must:
- attend Shifts you accept on time and properly attired;
- maintain patient confidentiality;
- comply with the Practice's clinical and safeguarding policies;
- not solicit other users off-platform during the term of this agreement.
9. Disputes
Disputes about a Shift (no-show, payment, conduct) must first be raised via the in-app dispute flow. We will mediate in good faith but cannot adjudicate clinical complaints — those go to the GDC.
10. Liability
To the extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for clinical outcomes, employment disputes, or losses arising from the conduct of any Practice or Nurse.
- Our aggregate liability for any claim arising from the Platform is capped at the fees you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
- Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
11. Indemnity
Each user agrees to indemnify Standby Dental against losses arising from their breach of these Terms or from clinical or contractual obligations to other users.
12. Termination
Either party may terminate by deleting their account. We may suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these Terms, fraud, or safety concerns.
13. Changes
We will give 14 days' notice of material changes via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
